Mission
Cinder
A spacecraft science environment where a healthy contact, a live bus, complete raw capture, fresh telemetry, and falling recorder space each mean something different.
Contact, instrument, product, clock, or recorder.
Mixed catalog status
The Ground Gap, Silent Instrument, Split Stream, and Fresh but Wrong are demonstration scenarios. They are not yet live demos. Recorder Tide is a demonstration concept.
Operational challenge
Data can be sent and still never enter the ground system. An instrument can go silent while the bus stays up. Products can gap after raw capture succeeded. Fresh data can be timed on the wrong clock. A recorder can be inside its limit and still be headed through it.
What V8Y is being tested on
V8Y must find the first boundary that actually broke, recommend rather than command a vehicle when that is the rule, and prove science recovery rather than a green bus or another contact.
Threads
The Ground Gap
DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO
Product latency grows even though the contact already put the data on the air.
The contact looks good. The science does not arrive on the ground.

DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO
Science stays absent while the spacecraft bus and the link continue to look usable.
The bus and the link stay up. Science frames stop.

DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO
Further priority products gap if the stage after raw capture stays broken.
Raw capture looks complete. Priority products are missing.

DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO
The next time-dependent action is sequenced against the wrong mission time.
Displays look current. Events sit on the wrong mission time.

DEMONSTRATION CONCEPT
The recorder fills, or science is lost, if nothing is thinned or dumped before the limit.
Science is still flowing. Remaining recorder space is not keeping up.

Mission proof
Another contact, a bus reboot, or cleanup after a full recorder is not success. Ground entry, science frames, product completeness, an agreed time base, or recorder occupancy still below its limit is.
Applicability
Ground-segment operators, instrument teams, mission planners, and science-data users.
