The Quiet Capacity Crisis
The service still meets its requirement. The headroom will not.
The pool crosses its declared limit if nothing changes, while the service is still inside requirements.
DEMONSTRATION CONCEPT
This is a demonstration concept. It is not a live demonstration and does not report an executed result.
The situation
A shared pool is still serving inside its requirement. Consumption and remaining headroom are both visible.
Nothing is in outage. Occupancy is climbing toward a declared limit while the service is still inside its requirement.
Why this is hard
A resource can stay healthy now while its trajectory makes a limit crossing predictable. That is not a surge that has already caused errors, and it is not a cooling trip.
Waiting for the outage, or throttling a workload that is not this trajectory, should not count.
What the operator can see
- NowService inside limits
- TrendOccupancy rising
- AheadThe declared limit
What V8Y must determine
V8Y must determine whether occupancy will cross the declared limit if nothing changes, as against a surge that has already caused errors or a cooling trip, and act before that crossing.
What may happen next
The pool crosses the limit inside the horizon if no action is taken.
What counts as recovery
Not recovery
Success is not a repair after the pool has failed.
Recovery
Success is that the pool stays under the limit while the service stays inside its requirement.
Observed results
No executed results are published for this thread.
What this evaluation would test
- A forecast while service is still good.
- A declared limit, not a vague concern.
- Action before the crossing.
- This demonstration is a concept until its limit and lead time are set. Those numbers are synthetic.
These are the conditions the evaluation would test. They are not reported results.
Operational basis
View operational basis and sources
Grounded in utility filings and reliability assessments that show large new loads consuming interconnection headroom while service is still delivered. The lead time and the limit used here are synthetic and not yet set.
