Mission

Fort Grid

A facility environment where cooling, power continuity, storage, failover, and remaining capacity each threaten services differently.

The hall fails together. The first green light can lie.

Mixed catalog status

The Hot Aisle, The Power Chain, The Storage Cascade, and The Bad Failover are demonstration scenarios. They are not yet live demos. The Quiet Capacity Crisis is a demonstration concept.

Operational challenge

Many services can die from one upstream function. Cool air is not the same as services meeting their requirements. A continuity break is not a utility blink. Storage faults spread through retries. A failover can report success while clients still cannot commit. Capacity can be headed for a limit while the service still looks fine.

What V8Y is being tested on

V8Y must name the ancestor that actually failed, refuse the look-alike, and prove that dependent services meet their requirements — or, before a limit, that they never had to fail.

Threads

  1. The Hot Aisle

    DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO

More equipment trips if the hall is not shed and brought back in order.

Services in one hall fail together. Cooling coming back is only the start.

  2. The Power Chain

    DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO

Loads on the broken continuity segment stay dark until they are on the feed that was supposed to carry them.

A hard multi-service outage. Utility voltage may not be the break.

    View thread: The Power Chain
  3. The Storage Cascade

    DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO

More dependents breach if retries keep amplifying a shared storage fault.

Power and cooling look up. Applications slow, then error.

  4. The Bad Failover

    DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO

Client commits keep failing after the procedure that was supposed to restore them.

The failover procedure finished. Clients still cannot commit.

  5. The Quiet Capacity Crisis

    DEMONSTRATION CONCEPT

The pool crosses its declared limit if nothing changes, while the service is still inside requirements.

The service still meets its requirement. Remaining capacity will not.

Mission proof

Ancestor restored, utility present, or failover complete is a technical event. Success is dependent service, or a pool that stays inside its limit.

Applicability

Facility and platform operators, and mission owners who depend on a shared hall.
