Historical Data Load
A historical load is running. Live work is what fails.
Live transactions stay down until the workload holding the store is identified.
DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO
This is a demonstration scenario. It is not a live demonstration and does not report an executed result.
The situation
A historical retrieval or backfill is running against the same store as live transactions.
Live transactions fail while that historical job is in progress.
Why this is hard
A historical job can starve the same store an interactive query would. A disk that merely fills, or a network surge, is a different fault.
Treating a full disk as the whole story, or limiting the front door, should not count if the historical job is holding the store.
What the operator can see
- SeenLive transactions fail
- Open questionHistorical job or path
- At riskErrors continue
What V8Y must determine
V8Y must distinguish a historical job on the shared store from a disk that only fills and from a network surge. Live transactions are the recovery that matters.
What may happen next
Transaction errors continue while the job runs.
What counts as recovery
Not recovery
Success is not a completed archive job.
Recovery
Success is that live transactions succeed.
Observed results
No executed results are published for this thread.
What this evaluation would test
- The same store question as Analytics Overload, with a historical job in view.
- A historical job is the workload in view, not a different kind of failure.
- Disk-fill alone is a different fault.
- Live transactions are the edge.
These are the conditions the evaluation would test. They are not reported results.
Operational basis
View operational basis and sources
Operator reports of bulk historical reads and backfills show this pressure on live databases. The demonstration adapts that shared-store pattern. The historical-load presentation is synthetic.
Related threads
Analytics Overload is the interactive form of this store question.
