Mission

Signal Anchor

Navigation and communications cases where an accepted fix, or a terminal that is still associated, is not a mission that is still sound.

The fix can look valid. The link can look up.

Demonstration scenarios

False Fix and Fading Link are demonstration scenarios. They are not yet live demos.

Operational challenge

A receiver can keep a fix that independent evidence does not support. A terminal can stay registered while the traffic the mission needs has already missed its class of service. Treating either sign as health sends the repair to the wrong team.

What V8Y is being tested on

V8Y must decide whether a convincing fix is safe to keep using, and whether a live association is actually carrying the mission’s traffic.

Threads

  1. False Fix

    DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO

Navigation consumers can act on a fix the receiver itself has not rejected.

Navigation still looks acceptable. Trust in the position may not.

  2. Fading Link

    DEMONSTRATION SCENARIO

Command and reconnaissance tempo slip while the terminal still looks registered.

The terminal stays associated. Heavier mission traffic fails first.

Mission proof

A fix flag or a modem-up bit is not recovery. The position in use has to agree with an independent source, or the mission’s own class of traffic has to meet its requirement.

Applicability

Navigation-integrity authorities, contested-communications cells, and operators who act on position or on a live link.
